Invisalign vs. Smile Direct Club

Clear aligners have quickly become one of the most popular ways to straighten your teeth. Clear aligners are essentially trays that fit around your teeth and shift the teeth into proper position. Two of the most popular options are Invisalign and Smile Direct Club, both being orthodontic clear aligners. However, this is where the similarities end as both Invisalign and Smile Direct Club are very different services.

At Finger Lakes Dental Care, we want to educate you and our patients so that they can make the most educated decision for their oral health. We will go through what sets Invisalign and Smile Direct Club apart and help you to understand why we encourage all patients to choose Invisalign as their orthodontic option.

The Issue Of Your Bite

Both Invisalign and Smile Direct Club can give you a straight smile, but what Smile Direct Club does not take into account is your overall bite. Once you straighten your teeth, you need to have a healthy bite to ensure your mouth comes together properly and your teeth do not chip or damage each other. Smile Direct Club only offers straight teeth, and many patients find they now have an improper bite after going through the treatment. With Invisalign, our doctors will monitor your development and make sure that your teeth become straight and that they also develop into a proper bite.

The Issue Of Your Oral Health

When you want to align your teeth, it is important to take into consideration your overall oral health as well. If there are underlying health conditions like gum disease or cavities present, these should be addressed before the alignment process happens. With Invisalign, you’ll have our team of professional dentists to evaluate your health and make sure you are ready, but with Smile Direct Club, nobody is looking out for your health. Patients have severely damaged their smile with Smile Direct Club because they did not know their underlying health condition would hinder their tooth alignment!

The Issue of Materials

While both alignment options use clear plastic material instead of metal, only Invisalign uses patented SmartTrack® material. SmartTrack material is more comfortable for patients as well as stronger. It allows for gentle tooth alignment and ease of removal of the aligners. Smile Direct Club does not use this special material, making the alignment process often more painful and harder to take the aligners in and out.

At Finger Lakes Dental Care, our orthodontists want you to be informed and have the necessary information to make the best decision for your tooth alignment needs. If you have any questions on aligning your teeth and what solution is best for you, we encourage you to call our office and speak to our team!
